Stoke on Trent

Made up of six towns collectively called ‘The Potteries’, Stoke-on-Trent is the centre of the ceramic world. Hosting the biggest names of English china from Wedgwood to Moorcroft, it goes without saying that pottery attractions dominate, from visitor centres and world-class ceramic museums to factory shops.

Visitors can throw a Jasper pot on the wheel or paint a ceramic plate at the Wedgwood Visitor Centre or head to the Gladstone Pottery Museum, the only completely preserved Victorian pottery from the era with video presentations, working demonstrations, an old-fashioned tea room and a comical story involving a toilet. If the thought of pottery doesn’t set your pulse racing, then nearby Alton Towers theme park with its range of heart thumping rides definitely will!
